PLANET ICE SOLIHULL

The Cyclones got to work straight from the opening face off with a dream start! After winning the draw and moving the puck well, Fry split the opposition with a hard pass to Longworth who broke into the zone and sniped on the short side after 15 seconds. The Cyclones controlled the game for the opening 2 shifts before being caught out by the netting around Solihull’s rink, as a high and wide shot sprung back in front of the net leaving Stanley helpless as Storm levelled the game.
A scrappy first period, with plenty of chances at both ends being blocked, or disrupted, saw the Cyclones squeeze out two more goals - with Longworth adding to his total unassisted, and Iain Mills scoring his first goal for the club with 7 minutes to go.
The Cyclones came out flying for the second, man of the match Ben Waplington scoring two quick fire goals on the first shift of the frame. Some poor defensive changes, and good puck movement from the opposition allowed Solihull to grab a lifeline and peg the score back to 5-4. However, the Cyclones responded fast and picked up 2 more before the period finished, Waplington completing his hat trick and Mills picking up his second of the game. The period ended with Stanley making a series of saves that wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Elite League, blocking from point blank range and recovering well to keep 2 rebound out.
Taking a 7-4 lead into the final period the Cyclones asserted their dominance on the game, with a mature performance to see the game out as bodies tired. Moving the puck well two early goals killed any hopes for Storm off, and despite a nice breakaway finish from Solihull’s number 3, the Cyclones stayed focused and Ash’s Marvin and Burrows picked up 2 late snipes to take the final score to 11-5.
